KATHMANDU, Jan 7: The Commission for Investigation of the Abuse of Authority (CIAA) today re-interrogated ex-minister Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta about his property holdings.
A source at the CIAA said that it questioned Gupta as it was not satisfied with the property details that he had submitted to the Judicial Commission for Investigation of Property (JCIP).
The CIAA has found differences between the amount of property he holds and details he submitted to the JCIP, the CIAA source said.
Ex-minister for Information and Communications Gupta, who was released on December 31, 2002 on bail of Rs. 100,000 after more than two months in police custody on corruption charges, told reporters at the CIAA premises this evening that he explained in detail his property holdings before the Commissioners.
Ex-minister Gupta was interrogated from 11:30 in the morning till 6:45 in the evening. He has been asked to be present at the CIAA on January 14.
Ex-minister Gupta is accused of abusing his authority while granting license for terrestrial TV to Kantipur Publications and engaging in corruption while renewing licences of movie theaters and while importing mobile phones.
The CIAA today also filed a case at the Special Court against under secretary Madhav Raj Pokharel, formerly with the Department of Revenue, who was arrested on charges of corruption a few months back.
Pokharel has been accused of amassing wealth by making payments to fake informers about smugglers.
