The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has detained Managing Director of Kantipur Publications Sunday for questioning on the charges that the regulations had been violated while obtaining the license for the opening of a new television station, CIAA sources said.

Sirohiya will be questioned further on Tuesday and a case is likely to be filed against him. He was taken to special court after 4 PM Monday, but the court did not register the case saying there was not enough time.

Kantipur Publications was given the license for the new television station during the tenure of the then Minister for Information and Communications, Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta. The regulations require the aspirant of a new television station to deposit 25 million rupees, which can only be withdrawn after the TV station goes on air and runs for at least six months.

But Sirohiya is accused of withdrawing the deposit in connivance with the then Minister Gupta even before it started going on air. Gupta is also being grilled by the CIAA on the alleged irregularities at the time of issuing license to Kantipur Publication for the TV station. He has also been booked for other alleged irregularities reported at the time when he was Minister.
