KATHMANDU: Students have accused a professor at Shankar Dev Campus affiliated with Tribhuvan University of bargaining a hefty amount alluring them of providing thesis and project reports.
Parents complained to the college administration after professor Jogindar Goit ‘demanded money from the students for preparing a thesis for them’, reported Naya Patrika Daily.
Students have accused him of demanding Rs 15 thousand to Rs 25 thousand saying that he will provide them with necessary thesis and project reports.
Meanwhile, the college administration has warned those involved in demanding money from students will face swindle charge.
KATHMANDU: The counting of one-horned rhinoceros has been left in limbo, thanks to inactiveness by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation.
One-horned rhinoceros in different national parks and wildlife reserves were counted in every four to five years. But, the department has been dillydallying to start the count citing lack of budget, Kantipur Daily reported.
KATHMANDU: Nepal’s former ambassador to Australia Lucky Sherpa, who faces an accusation of human trafficking, has accused the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of a unilateral decision being guided by others vested interest.
The ministry had formed a committee to investigate the accusation over the envoy. However, the report is yet to be made public, reported Kantipur Daily.
She has also claimed that the ministry didn’t give chances to her for clarification.
KATHMANDU: The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek has become risky following heavy snow this year, media report said.
Although the trekking route that was closed for a long period opened recently, trekkers are having hard time to reach the Base Camp due to heavy pile of snow. Hotels at the Base Camp are not operating as they have been submerged by the snow which has worried tourism entrepreneurs, reports Nagarik Daily.
Entrepreneur Chandra Bhujel who recently returned from the Base Camp informed that trek to Deurali from Chomrong is hassle-free. But, trek from Deurali to Base Camp is full of risks due to heavy snow.
‘There is a high risk in trek from Deurali to Base Camp as an avalanche could hit the area any time,’ he said, adding that most of the tourists are forced to return from Deurali while few have succeeded to reach Base Camp.
KATHMANDU: Kanti Children’s Hospital, the only central children hospital of the country, is on a verge of closure owing to lack of health workers and budget, media report said.
The hospital with a capacity of 315 beds had cut down 46 beds in the last month. The hospital removed six ICU beds, 10 intermediate beds and 30 extra beds, Naya Patrika Daily reported.
Hospital Director Ganesh Rai said they are facing severe problem in service delivery due to lack of required doctors and nurses and necessary budget.
‘There is lack of medical officers and nurses for ICU. Only this week, the number of beds in ICU was reduced to 31,’ he said, ‘ We appealed for help to Ministry for Health time and again. But, have failed to receive any aid. If such situation continues, the hospital will shut down soon.’
KATHMANDU: Former Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand has apologized to the scooter rider hit by the security escort vehicle belonging to the Armed Police Force, media report said.
According to a report in Nagarik Daily, the former Prime Minister called the scooter rider Santosh Kunwar and his wife to his residence and expressed sadness over the incident. The report added that Chand said he was ready to bear treatment cost in case of any injury.
A video has been doing rounds in social media since yesterday showing a security escort vehicle escorting the former prime minister hitting a scooter. Despite the accident, the vehicle kept moving which has irked social media users.

Hospitals in different parts of the country lack basic drugs and facilities, reports a front page story of Naya Patrilka. Palpa District Hospital is running out of tetanus vaccine for a year. It is also in short of surgical cotton. Similarly, Gulmi District Hospital is sans an ambulance for the past three year. Likewise, a machine to examine Sickle Cell disease is dysfunctional at Bheri Zonal Hospital, according to the newspaper.
The newspaper also reports on its front page that the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi did not accept the report prepared by the Eminent Group Meeting (EPG) due to pressure from the state government of Bihar.
The government is working to present a bill regarding public private partnership and investment in the parliament. If passed, the bill shall have adverse impact in the jurisdiction of ministries related to infrastructure development, according to a story on the front page of Karobar. Rajdhani daily on its front page writes that Nepal government is finding it hard to arrest and persecute foreign nationals involved in criminal activities in the country. A record at the District Court Kathmandu reveals that total 360 criminals who are foreign nationals are absconding. The newspaper also reports that the government is tightening its grip on local bodies rendering them unable to recruit employees on arbitrary manner.
KATHMANDU: Kantipur daily has highlighted the renouncement of Independent Madhesh Alliance (IMA) by CK Raut, a secessionist Madheshi leader.
Raut agreed to join the main stream politics of Nepal by signing an 11-point agreement with the government at the City Hall in the capital on Friday, giving up his seven-year-long stance for separate Madhesh state. According to the agreement, both the parties have to treat with each other in line with the the constitution of Nepal.
Meanwhile, the Nepal Communist Party leaders Bamdev Gautam and Narayan Kaji Shrestha expressed discontent over the language used in the agreement.
Naya Patrika daily has reported that out of 753 local units, 93 units have changed their names and headquarters. Seventeen units have changed only their names leaving the centers intact while 55 have changed only centers leaving the the names intact. Twenty units have changes both names and centers, according to the report.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) could not decide the disputed case of Samim Ansari, candidate of National Muslim Commission, within the given time. According to the provision, the PHC has to submit its report within 45 days after receiving the letter from the concerned unit. Four complaints had been filed against Ansari at the PHC. With PHC’s failure to take a decision on Ansari, he is likely to become chairman of the Commission.
With the advancement of information technology, the number of cyber crimes have also gone up, of late. As many as 253 cases related to Facebook, 19 related to YouTube, 10 online web-page, nine Imo, 10 Instagram and three cases related to Twitter have been filed at the Metropolitan Crime Division, Teku, Kathmandu, according to a report in Annapurna daily.
Rajdhani daily has highlighted that the state is still witnessing the import of medicines the government had banned almost two years ago. The government had punt a ban on the import of 30 different medicine including Albendazole, amoxicillin, antacid, tinidazole among others on June 13, 2017.
However, these medicines are still coming to Nepal without restrictions after the Department of Drug Administration failed to implement the decision, allegedly due to the pressure from the medicine importers.
KATHMANDU: Kantipur daily has highlighted the arrest of two promoters of Gandaki Medical College in today’s edition. According to the report, police rounded up Controller of Examinations Laxman Prasad Sharma and Chief Executive Officer of the medical college Santosh Khanal.
Khanal was arrested from Birauta while Sharma was held from Rastra Bank chowk on Wednesday evening. Police had issued an arrest warrant against them following a complaint by the students that they were fleeced by charging them more fee than the ceiling set by the government.
“We have issued an arrest warrant against 10 individuals following a complaint by the students. We have arrested two promoters so far. The search for the rest is underway,” said SP Om Bahadur Rana Magar.
Meanwhile, Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) went up by 16 points to close at 1127.77 on Thursday, the last trading day of the week. It was at 1100 points on Sunday. Similarly, entrepreneurs have demanded that the interest rate should not be increased during the loan period. They put forth their demand in a meeting with Chiranjibi Nepal, governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, yesterday.
With the withdrawal of its support to the government, Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) has started making preparations to resume Madhes Movement. Rajendra Mahato , a presidium member of the RJPN, said that the government will lose the Madhes’ sentiments even though the party’s pull out would not impact it mathematically.
The Oli-led government commands support of 192 lawmakers in the parliament while 184 lawmakers are required for two-thirds majority.
RJPN decided to withdraw its support to the government after Kailali District Court on Wednesday slapped 11 individuals including lawmaker Resham Chaudhary with life imprisonment for their involvement in Tikapur incident, a report in Nagarik daily said.
Similarly, Supreme Court on Thursday ordered to release CK Raut, who had been arrested on the charge of sedition, on a date. A division bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana and Justice Purushottam Bhandari issued the order to release Raut on a date saying that they did not find enough evidences against him.

Kailali District Court sentenced 11 people including lawmaker of RJPN Resham Lal Chaudhary to life in prison on Wednesday. Hearing the case filed against them on Tikapur incident, a single bench of district judge Parshuram Bhattarai slapped a life imprisonment on them for their involvement in Tikapur incident. Seven police personnel including SP Laxman Neupane and a toddler had been killed in a clash between police and Tharu agitators in Tikapur on August 24, 2015.
Meanwhile, taking strong exception to the court’s decision, RJPN withdrew its support to the KP Oli-led government. Rajendra Mahato, a presidium member of the RJPN, warned of stringent protest ahead if the government did not pardon Chaudhary.
Similarly, Raskot Municipalilty of Kalikot district has established Shram Rojgar Bank in a bid to create jobs for the youths in the village itself. Inaugurating the bank, Mayor Kashi Chandra Baral on Wednesday said, “We have established Shram Rojgar Bank to provide employment to the youths in the village itself.” “The bank, I believe, will stop the flow of youths into India where they are forced to do blue-collar jobs, risking their life,” he added.
Paragliding companies in Pokhara have been operating without renewing their licenses . A total of 55 out of 56 paragliding companies have not yet renewed their licenses for the last four years, Naya Patrika reported.
According to Ganga Lal Subedi, spokesperson of Pokhara Metropolitan City (PMC), the companies have not renewed their licenses despite repeated warnings.

The National Planning Commission has projected an investment of around Rs 9.8 trillion in the next five years to achieve the target of 10.1 percent economic growth, reported Gorkhapatra daily. The estimated projection came to the fore in a program organized to collect comments and suggestions on the draft of 15th five-year plan (2076/77-2080/81) in the capital yesterday.
