DAMAULI: Total 57 workers of a health facility in Tanahun are deprived of their monthly salary since mid-September last year.
The staff at GP Koirala National Respiration Treatment Centre based in Shuklagandaki Municipality-5, Belchautara complain of financial difficulty in lack of regular pay. Puja Karki, a non-gazetted first class officer complained of her pain of having to rely on her kin for money despite being employed.
The treatment center is unable to provide salary to its staff due to government’s failure to disburse the budget, according to Dr. Raj Kumar Shrestha, Chief at the center.
WASHINGTON: The United States will leave at least 200 American peacekeeping group in Syria for a certain period of time after a U.S. pullout, agencies have said quoting the White House.
President Donald Trump in December last year ordered a withdrawal of the 2,000 American troops in Syria. He said the troops had defeated the Islamic State (IS) militants there.
White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a statement that a small peacekeeping group will remain in Syria for a certain period of time, reports have said.
However, according to international news agencies, Trump has been under pressure from several advisers to adjust his policy to ensure the protection of Kurdish forces. The Kurdish forces supported the fight against the IS militants.
KATHMANDU: Lawmaker of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Uttar Kumar Oli has passed away on Friday.
Oli succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Lalitpur-based Mediciti Hospital at 1 am today, NCP Central Committee member Bishnu Rijal told Khabarhub.
Oli, who had been elected to the Provincial Assembly of Province 5 from Dang 3 (B), through proportional representation system, was critically injured in Lamahi road accident on February 7.
According to Rijal, Oli’s body will be kept at NCP central party office at Dhumbarahi for condolence and will later be transported to home district Dang for final rites.
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
He had been brought to Kathmandu after preliminary treatment at Kohalpur Hospital, Banke.

Metmani Chaudhary, a lawmaker of the House of Representatives, said Dang lost a decent leader. Talking to Khabarhub, Chaudhary said that Oli had won everybody’s hearts in a short span of time.
He was a creative leader and was liked by all age groups including children, youth and elders, added Chaudhary.
BIRGUNJ: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday inaugurated the ‘daughter education insurance’ fixed deposit bank account under the ‘Beti Padhau, Beti Bachau (Educate the Daughter, Save the Daughter)’ campaign in Birgunj.
The program has been introduced by the Province 2 government. The provincial government has allocated Rs 890 million for the campaign for the fiscal year 2018/19.
On the occasion, President Bhandari lauded the campaign emphasizing the need of accelerating the ‘daughter education’.
“Since today’s daughters are tomorrow’s responsible citizens, educating them is the need of the day,” she said.
She also stressed the need to educate daughters to establish a strong foundation of culture.
KATHMANDU: Dr Karin Kneissl, Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Republic of Austria arrived in Kathmandu on a three-day official visit to Nepal.
She arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital this afternoon at the invitation of Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali leading a 13-member delegation.
The two ministers are scheduled to hold talks on February 22. On the same day, Foreign Minister Gyawali will host a luncheon in honor of his Austrian counterpart.
Austrian Foreign Minister Dr Kneissl is scheduled to meet with Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Oli tomorrow.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she will participate in a talk program organized by the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA) on ‘Sixty years of Nepal-Austria Partnership: energy, regional and global trends ‘ and articulate Austria’s perspective.
KATHMANDU: For adventure seekers and fun lovers, paragliding, which has come into operation at Chapakharka in Godavari, would be a perfect experience.
All one needs to do is to drive all the way to Godavari, which is 15 kilometers from Kathmandu, and then to Chapakharka, which is 5 kilometers from there.
The 15 to 30 minutes of floating in the air will give a lifetime experience at Rs 6,500 per flight from where one can see the entire Kathmandu Valley, the surrounding mountain peaks, and the green hills. However, a foreigner has to pay Rs11,300 for the same time.
The paragliding with an investment of around Rs30 million has been operated keeping in view the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign, which aims to attract over two million tourists.
Though the paragliding began last year in December, the service was disrupted due to various reasons.
According to Kathmandu Paragliding and Hand-gliding Pvt Ltd, the operators, some three hundred flights have been conducted so far. It operates 25 flights a day with six gliders.
The paragliding takes place from 2,100 meters above Godavari and the landing takes place at Rachantar, which is at an altitude of 1,600 meters.
KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to enact a new law in a bid to attract foreign investment and to ease technology transfer.
The new act replacing the existing act on Foreign Employment and Technology Transfer Act, 1993 shall provide many facilities to foreign investors.
For example, the new act shall provide identity cards as well as business visas to foreign investors. Similarly, those investing USD 10 million or more shall be provided with residential visa until their stay in Nepal. The investor, his/her family members, and relatives will also benefit from the provision.
The act envisages that either an individual or a group can invest in Nepal. Similarly, a foreigner can invest in Nepal by establishing a branch of its existing venture.
The government is working to enact the law ahead of Nepal Investment Summit 2019 slated for the last week of March.
The act puts no bar on the amount of foreign investment. Similarly, it shall guarantee that no foreign investment shall be nationalized. As such the new act shall incorporate many issues not addressed by the current act, according to a source at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
The act envisages that either an individual or a group can invest in Nepal. Similarly, a foreigner can invest in Nepal by establishing a branch of its existing venture.
Once the new act is enforced, any foreign national coming to Nepal for research and studies in terms of investment will be entitled to a non-tourist visa for a total of six months.
KATHMANDU: Nepal has faced a 57-run defeat at the hand of host Thailand in their second match under the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier being held at Bangkok on Thursday.
Nepal secured only 67 runs at the cost of eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs while chasing the 125-run target set by the opponent team. Except two players – Indu Barma and Sita Rana Magar, Nepal’s other players could not score double-digit runs. Barma was out for 29 runs off 44 balls while Magar scored 18 runs off 34 balls.
In reply, Thai cricketers Sornnarin Tippoch grabbed two wickets of Nepal giving away 12 runs in four overs, Suleeporn Laomi, Nattaya Boochatham and Chanida Sutthiruang grabbed one wicket each, thereby exerting pressure on Nepal.
Earlier, Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Thailand scored 124 runs in the allotted 20 overs losing seven wickets.
Chanida Sutthiruang top-scored with 35 runs including three fours off 29 balls, Naruemol Chaiwai made 32 runs including three fours off 27 balls while Wongpaka Liengprasert contributed 28 runs including one four off 27 balls.

BIRGUNG: Province-2 is set to launch the ‘Daughter Insurance Program’ as part of ‘Save Daughters, Educate Daughters’ campaign. Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, chief district officer of Parsa, informed that that the province government had allocated around Rs 890 million for the campaign in the Fiscal Year 2018/19.
The province-2 government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Prabhu Bank for the daughter insurance program. The first phase of the campaign includes cycle distribution, construction of girl-friendly toilets in community schools and awareness raising activities. The target is to distribute cycles to 4,000 girl students of all eight districts of the province-2.
The campaign is taken as an important measure to avert several anomalies pervasive in the Province-2 such as discrimination between sons and daughters, dowry system and female infanticide.
