KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman, Puspa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is leaving for the USA this evening for the treatment of his wife, Sita.
Dahal is also accompanied by his daughter and daughter in law.
Dahal’s wife suffers from sugar, high blood pressure and parkinsons.

Mina Kumari Shahi, 23 of Naraharinath Rural Municipality-7 in Kalikot district died in lack of postnatal treatment.
As the umbilical cord did not fall upon delivery, that led to blood hemorrhage. In lack of medical treatment at the local health institutions, she died at Guranse area of Dailekh district on the way to a better health facility at Surkhet.
Prior to this, pregnancy complications had claimed the life of Chanda Shah at Manma.
KASKI: Students at Gandaki Medical College and Hospital withdrew their protest programs after over one and half month. They opened the padlock of the college and hospital yesterday.
The students had locked the college since January 31 protesting against hike in educational fee by the college. Their demands had entered into a legal process and the agitation has been put off till the report of regulatory body is made public, the agitating students said.
Anil Sinha, an agitating student, said there was no obstruction to the educational and hospital services. The students agreed to remove the padlock to allow MBBS students to sit in examinations beginning from coming April 4.
The protesting students had registered a complaint over a forgery case against college operators and employees on March 5th after the college administration did not heed their demands. After the complaint, the police arrested 11 concerned persons including college chairperson, Khuma Prasad Aryal.
KATHMANDU: Senior journalist, Mahindra Raj Shrestha passed away due to heart attack yesterday. He was 86.
Shrestha was among the three founders of the national news agency, Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) along with Ramraj Poudel and Govinda Biyogi.
Born at Tahachal in Kathmandu Metropolis, Shrestha breathed his last on his way to Thapathali-based Norvic International Hospital following cardiac arrest, according to his family sources. He is survived by his spouse, a daughter and a son.
JUMLA: The master plan to develop Sinja valley as a religious, historic and tourist area is put on hold as no concrete efforts are made in this regards, complained local people. Sinja is the valley where the Nepali language originated and is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage site.
The 10-year master plan brought a decade ago by the Jumla Social Development Centrer remains neglected, according to Bhakta Bahadur Bogati, chairperson of the center.
The plan includes construction of four-lane road, embankments, a museum, a hospital, a center to treat snakebite patients and a college offering master’s degree program and conversation of the dilapidated temples.
The then District Development Committee had endorsed the plan. However, the respective ministry and sectors are yet to give the nod, said Bogati.
In lack of proper management, many religious sites, heritage, temples and structures have been in a dilapidated condition. Objects of cultural and historical importance, Pandav Cave, Birat Palace and Kanakasundari Temple are in the state of disrepair.
Likewise, Khas language and Sinja civilization is on the verge of disappear.

KATHMANDU: Nepali U-19 cricket team left for India for the practice match today for the preparation of the World Cup Asia qualifier. The team will play four practice match with Andra Pradesh Cricket Team. For the ICC U-19 World Cup Asia qualifier, the 18-member team was announced today in the captainship of Rohit Kumar Poudel, said coach Binod Das. The 18 players were selected out of 52 players. The Asian qualifier is scheduled for coming April 10 to 20.

KATHMANDU: A new technology will be introduced in the Bagmati River, nearby the revered Pashupatinath temple, in a bid to clean the holy river.
Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) is introducing the bio-toilet technology for cleaning the Bagmati River in collaboration with the Bagmati Civilisation Integrated Development Committee (BCIDC).
The aim is also to increase water flow in the river by ridding it of garbage. The drainage from toilets would be processed and only water would be discharged by using the bio-toilet technology at Pashupati area.
PADT says this technology would be used to purify the water in the Bagmati River in the stretch from Guheshwari to Tilganga.
PADT Member-Secretary, Dr Pradip Dhakal said they are conducting a feasibility study to check the efficacy of the new technology.
Although works had been started for purifying the river water that flows on this stretch some 24 years ago by establishing the result has not been desirable.
PADT stated that works on this project would be started once the feasibility study team submits its report.
Bagmati Clean Up Mega Campaign was started on May 19, 2013 with the initial objective of making the water in the Bagmati river up to Pashupati area fit for bathing purpose.
In the course of the campaign, river cleaning has been carried out on various stretches of the river.
The river and its catchment area are cleaned to some extent but due to discharge of drains in the upstream areas, the river gets polluted to the extent that it cannot sustain marine life.
Thirty-seven metric tons of waste from the river area was collected today in the course of cleaning up works carried out in the rivers and various places along the Ring Road area in the Kathmandu valley today.

Nepal France Friendship Society (NFFS) was established in 2017 with the aim of enhancing cooperation between Nepal and France at the initiative of Binod Khakurel, chairman of NFFS who has been residing in Paris for past 23 years. The organization was set up with the objective of exploring cooperation opportunities between Nepal and France as well as supporting and connecting culture, people and art and literature of the two countries.
The scholarship program is for the undergraduate level and covers the tuition fee, membership, exam fees in Nepal and is sponsored by Laxmi Bank. Student selection, sponsor criteria, payment modality will be decided by the joint meeting of representatives from French Embassy in Nepal, Nepal France Friendship Society and Laxmi Bank.
POKHARA: A man, who had gone missing, has been found dead in the Fewa Lake in Pokhara, Kaski district on Saturday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Shishir KC, an MBBS student of Gandaki Medical College, Pokhara.
KC, who originally hails from Myagdi district, was found floating in the Fewa Lake.
Police retrieved KC’s body from the Lake at 10 am today after a search operation carried out based on KC’s helmet and clothes left behind on the bank of the Fewa Lake before committing suicide.
KC had informed his friend about his suicide plan through SMS, according to DSP Rabindra Gurung of Kaski District.
