DADELDHURA: A man died while nine others sustained critical injuries when a micro-bus met with an accident in Gunyadhura Municipality-3 on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Ganesh Saud of Sayal Rural Municipality of Doti, confirmed District Police Office, Dadeldhura.
Critically injured Saud succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at District Hospital Dadeldhura.
According to police, the condition of Kaila Dholi, 47, among those injured, is said to be critical. Other injured include Kala Damai, 50, Lamxi Nepali, 37, of Silgadhi Municipality, Jaya Damai, 62, his wife Bishna Damai, 45, their 3-year-old son Uddav Damai of Shikhar Municipality -11 and Raju Nepali, 40, of Barbata Doti.
Similarly, the others injured include Ishwar Singh Tamata, 62, of Ganyadhura Rural Municipality-5. Dadheldhura and Bir Bahadur Rokka Magar of Janaki Rural Municipality-2, Kailali, DSP Dambar Bahadur KC told Khabarhub.
All the injured are undergoing treatment at District Hospital, Dadeldhura.
Police said they have taken driver Binaya Bohara and micro bus owner Dev Singh Bhat under control and are investigating the case.
An ill-fated micro bus, Ba 2 Kha 1665, was heading toward Dhangadhi from Siligudi of Doti when it suddenly backtracked and fell some 35 meters down the road at 10:30 am today.
SURKHET: The business communities have proposed that Banke and Bardiya districts be merged into Karnali State. Surkhet and Kohalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) have argued that the merger would boost economic development of the state.
Speaking at an interaction program in Birendranagar, Dhan Bahadur Raut, President of Surkhet said the state carving has distanced mutual relations between Banke, Bardiya and Karnali districts. He viewed that the integration process would not be possible without political support. “Political leaders should take initiatives in this regard,” he claimed.
Besides business, Raut also pointed out the cultural and social relations among Banke, Bardiya and Surkhet. Likewise, Narendra Sharma, member of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of state 5 urged all sections of the society to raise their voice in this regard.
KATHMANDU: A tremor measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale shook the capital on Monday morning.
According to Lok Bijaya Adhikari, chief of National Seismological Center (NSC), Lainchaur, it occurred at 9:1 am with its epicenter in Chitlang, Makwanpur.
It was an aftershock of the Gorkha earthquake that devastated Nepal on April 25, 2015, claiming lives of over 8,857 people.
As many as 514 aftershocks with 4 and above on the Richter scale have occurred since the mega earthquake. The number of tremors may go even higher but NSC does not record those less than 4 in magnitude, added Adhikari.
KATHMANDU: A Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the Nepali Congress is taking place at 11 am at the central party headquarters in Sanepa today.
The meeting is likely to dwell on the formation of disciplinary and election committees of the party, NC party sources said.
Other agendas to be discussed in the meeting include formulation of regulation in line with the party statute, government performance and contemporary political affairs, according to the sources.
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged the main opposition Nepali Congress not to whine like a child over the ban on the Biplv outfit recently imposed by the government.
Prime Minister said that the Biplav-led Nepal Communist Party is an illegal criminal group as it is not legally registered.
Talking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport on Sunday, Prime Minister Oli clarified that the government had to impose a ban on the group after it unleashed terror in the society by detonating bombs and extortion. “Why are NC, who often claim themselves as the most democratic, lamenting over the ban on the Biplv outfit’s activities imposed by the government?, Oli asked.
Oli asserted that no is allowed to unleash terror by means of threats and extortion in the country.
KATHMANDU: The main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) has expressed its concern on some of the provisos enshrined in the bill on the rights ad responsibilities of National Security Council-2075 BS.
The NC commented that it was wrong to propose provisions to make the security council a shadow of the Prime Minister by breaching the constitutional arrangement.
“The draft of the bill has violated constitutional arrangement of army mobilization. It is unconstitutional to propose a bill in a way to provide discretionary power to the prime minister in regard to army mobilization”, states a press release issued by NC Spokesperson Biswo Prakash Sharma.
It is the duty of the state to explore solution to all types of problems arising in the country within the constitutional parameter. But it is a very serious matter for the state to propose a bill against the letter and spirit of the constitution by presenting certain issue a cause”, the release reads.
NC would would strongly protest the bill were presented at the parliament without amendment, the Spokesperson said, calling for the government not to move ahead in away that could have far-reaching impact on the life of constitution.
KATHMANDU: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota said the registration of social networking sites is a must to curb cyber crimes.
Speaking at a program organized by Technology Journalists Forum (TJF) in Singha Durbar on Sunday, Minister Baskota said that it was mandatory to bring the Bill on Information Technology to end such crimes.
“With the development of Internet and Information Technology, discrepancies and challenges have also come along. That is why it should be regulated. It does not, however, intend to curtain the freedom of expression and speech, said Minister Baskota.
He further said that the regulation is also mandatory to bring the social networking sites under the purview of taxation.
KATHMANDU: China is all set to honor President Bidya Devi Bhandari with red carpet during the Second International Summit of Belt and Road Initiatives to be held in Beijing. This is the first time in history that China is making preparations to welcome the Nepali delegate with red carpet.
China had not invited former President Ram Baran Yadav to Beijing even though he visited the northern neighbor twice. China is giving special priority to the upcoming president’s China visit strategically to make Nepal as the gateway to the South Asia, Nagarik daily reported.
It is learnt that China and Nepal will sign a separate deal during Bhandari’s visit on the implementation of the agreements inked during the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s China visit.
OKHALDHUNGA: Okhaldhunga Community Hospital has made a mandatory rule of banning the sale and distribution of alcohol in its surrounding areas.
The hospital has declared an alcohol free zone in the area around 500 meters with the initiative of Lalupate Club and District Police Office. Action would be taken against them if anyone is found selling and consuming the liquor, hospital authorities said.
Although the campaign was launched five years ago, it is yet to be effective. The campaign has been revived by the District Police Office with the coordination of the Club with increased monitoring at Sobru area.
Chief at District Police Office, Pushpa Raj Malla, said that they have strictly implemented the rule after holding discussions with entrepreneurs and local leaders of the area in the presence of club members and people’s representatives.
Malla said, “We have been taking initiative to control alcohol-related incidents in view of the violent and illegal activities in the district lately.”
The local Lalupate Club has been brought into operation with the support of Okhaldhunga Community Hospital for eight years at Sobru. The Club, run by 16 people, has facilitated the treatment of more than 175 persons indulged in addiction.
