Dahal pledges Rs 500,000 each to windstorm victim’s family Published on: April 2, 2019

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Tuesday pledged to provide Rs 500,000 each to the families of those killed in Bara-Parsa windstorm.

Dahal pledged the assistance as he visited the Feta Rural Municipality in Bara district that was hardest-hit by the windstorm.

He also reached the Birgunj-based Narayani Sub-regional Hospital to take stock of the heath condition of those injured in the gale.

 

 

 

Wife involved in Feroj Ansari’s murder: Police Published on: April 2, 2019

BUTWAL: It has been revealed that Sahin Khatun, the wife of Feroj Ansari, who was shot dead in Mainabagar of Rupandehi last Wednesday, was involved in her husband’s murder.

Police said Khatun was in love with her 42-year-old brother-in-law Sadhir Husein of Betiya, India that ultimately led to the murder of Ansari.

Sahin who had been living with her husband in Butwal for the last 20 years fell in love with her own brother-in-law, according to police report.

Sahir, who came to Butwan on Wednesday afternoon, had plotted to kill Ansari in cahoots with his sister-in-law and shot him dead in the evening upon his arrival from his office.

Rupandehi Police said they will coordinate with the Indian police to arrest the murder-accused Husein.

The victim, Feroz Khan, 45, was an employee at the Auto Village at Mainanagar, Butwal, police.

He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the Lumbini Provincial Hospital.

 

Malaysia likely to take 100,000 Nepali workers Published on: April 2, 2019

KATHMANDU: Malaysia government is making preparations to deport 600,000 Bangladeshi nationals illegally taking refuge at different Malaysian companies.

Only 400,000 among 1 million Bangladeshi workers are legally working in Malaysia, Malaysian news portal The Star quoted Malaysian lawmaker Israfil Alam as saying in its news.

Lawmaker Alam said Malaysian government would send foreign migrant workers illegally working in the country. Malaysian government has been sending illegal foreign migrants time and again.

With the announcement to deport a huge number of Bangladeshi nationals, the government has hinted that it would recruit a huge number of Nepali workers in the days ahead.

According to an official at the Nepali Embassy in Malaysia, the Malaysian government has assured of taking 80,000 to 100,000 Nepali workers within three months.

Malays has stopped taking Nepali migrant workers since the last 10 months.

India’s Congress unveils manifesto; promises jobs, help for farmers Published on: April 2, 2019

NEW DELHI: India’s main opposition Congress announced jobs program to guarantee 150 days of work a year to rural people as well as additional help to farmers, Indian media reported.

Unveiling its election manifesto, the party said since unemployment is the gravest challenge, and job creation is the highest priority, the party said that it has prioritized farm distress and security for women.

It should be noted that the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act provides for 100 days of employment a year. (Agencies)

KATHMANDU: A meeting of Judicial Council (JC) on Tuesday recommend 17 individuals to the posts of High Court’s judges.

Among those recommended include three from Special Class officers of the Government of Nepal under Justice Service, one from former additional judge of appellate court (past), six from district judges and seven representing legal practitioners.

 

Govt resources not enough for Lumbini’s dev: Minister Khatiwada Published on: April 2, 2019

LUMBINI: Minister for Finance Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada today said government resources are not enough to undertake the Lumbini Development Master Plan.

He pledged to initiate on behalf of the Lumbini Development Trust (LDT) and the government to seek international community’s support for Lumbini’s development.

Minister Khatiwada, who visited Lumbini today, also stated that the government would cooperate with the LDT to realize its goal within the next three years.

On the occasion, he said the government lacks sufficient resources and budget required to implement the plan within the next three years.

He maintained that Lumbini being the world heritage site, needs international support for its management and promotion.

The minister also visited the Mayadevi Temple, and an under-construction meditation center, among other places in Lumbini.

Deuba inspects cyclone-hit sites Published on: April 2, 2019

KAPILVASTU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has flown to cyclone-hit Bara and Parsa districts to inspect damages caused by the freak storm.

Deuba, who stayed overnight in Lumbini after taking part in a party program in Kapilvastu yesterday, flew to the incident site in a helicopter on Tuesday.

He also visited Narayani Zonal Hospital, Birgunj to know the condition of the injured after inspecting the cyclone-battered sites.

Talking to journalists following his visit to the hospital, Deuba urged the government to send more doctors and health workers to the incident site to make rescue and relief operations more effective.

 

 

Brawl in Sydney: One Nepali in hospital, another in custody Published on: April 2, 2019

SYDNEY: A Nepali living in Australia was severely injured while his Nepali friend has been taken under custody following a brawl in Sydney CBD on Monday midnight.

Police said the 22-year-old Nepali was allegedly punched, and was left with a “fractured skull and bleeding on the brain”. Police have arrested his 25-year-old friend.

The events took a nasty turn as they were involved in an argument with two brothers while crossing the path at George Street.

The brothers, who were also arrested, have been released on bail. One of the brothers punched the Nepali youth, who is on a hospital bed.

JC recommends 5 justices to SC, 17 to HC Published on: April 2, 2019

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Judicial Council (JC) held on Tuesday recommended five justices to the vacant posts of the Supreme Court of Nepal.

The meeting recommended Prakash Dhungana, Susmalata Dhungana, Kumar Regmi, Hari Phuyal and Manoj Sharma as justices to the apex court. Five posts of justices had been lying vacant in the SC since a long time.

Dhungana among those recommended is the chief judge of High Court Patan while Mathema is chief judge of High Court Surkhet.

Similarly, Phuyal is former Attorney General who is recommended representing legal practitioners. He had been appointed as the Attorney General during the previous tenure of KP Oli as the prime minister.

The recommended justices will officially take charge as the SC justices once hey undergo a parliamentary hearing and take oath of office and secrecy from the president.

Likewise, the JC has recommended 17 individuals to the posts of High Court judges.

GORKHA: Some 1,000 people have been benefitted from a free health camp organized at Barpak Sulikot rural municipality-3 in Gorkha district.

Locals of Swara and Saurpani received health services in the two-day camp organized from Sunday by Karmaflights Foundation Nepal, Pokhara.

The health camp was supported by Barpak Sulikot rural municipality-3 Lions Club of Pokhara Sky Town, and Swara health post.
