5 july, Afghanistan- Six security personnel have been confirmed dead as a clash erupted in Miwand district of Afghanistan’s southern Kandahar province on Thursday night, district police chief Hajji Lala said Friday.
A group of Taliban militants, according to the official, stormed security checkpoints in Miwand bazaar area of Miwand district late Thursday night, triggering a gun battle. During the battle, six police personnel were killed and four others injured.
Taliban militants fled the area after suffering casualties, the official said, without giving an exact figure of the militants’ casualties. Taliban militants have not commented yet. (RSS)
5 july, tegucigalpaa- search and rescue operation continued on Thursday for nine fishermen missing after their boat sank off Honduras’ Mosquito Coast on Wednesday, in which 27 people died.
The lobster fishing boat Captain Waly was carrying 91 people at the time, and 55 were rescued by the Honduran armed forces, leaving nine unaccounted for, according to a list compiled by the armed forces.
All of the fatal victims were fishermen divers. It was the second such accident off the Honduran Mosquito Coast on Wednesday. Another boat, the Miss Francely, sank due to a suspected excess of passengers and poor weather conditions.
The Francely was carrying 49 people when it sank in the Caribbean waters, but all were rescued. The government issued a statement following the accident, pledging to support the rescue efforts, help the survivors, and search for the missing. (RSS)
3 July, Galeswor- Two children of Beni municipality-3, Dudhekhola went missing in the Myagdi river.
Pradeep Roka, 11, of Beni-3, Bhakimli and David Kaucha, who has been living in maternal uncle’s home at Beni-3, Dudhekhola, went disappeared while swimming in the river at 4.30 pm on Tuesday, according to the District Police Office, Myagdi.
Search for the missing is underway as the status of the children has yet to be ascertained. Gem Bahadur Gharti, Beni, ward-3 member, informed that the two children went missing while swimming in the river on the way back to home from school. (RSS)
3 July, Khalanga- Twenty-two schools based in Sinja rural municipality in Jumla which were closed for an ‘indefinite’ period since Sunday opened today. The agitating side was agreed to lift the padlock after the assurances from bodies concerned to address private teachers’ demand for payment.
According to Private Teachers’ Struggle Committee treasurer Hari Bahadur Rokaya, the agitating private teachers became ready to pull out the protest after rural municipality chair Dewal Singh Rawal and Education Department (under the rural municipality) chief Nabin Sharma gave words to address their demand.
Sixty-three private teachers in Sinja have complained of non-payment of their salary in this academic session. As they said, though private teachers on June 26 had given an ultimatum of four days to the school management committees for payment, the call fell into deaf ear, compelling them to take a harsh move. 3 July, Parasi- Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Padma Kumari Aryal has expressed the government’s commitment to developing Ramgram, an ancient site connected with the life of the Buddha.
She expressed this commitment while observing the Ramgram Stupa, a temple, where the relics of the Buddha is preserved, here on Tuesday. Minister Aryal said Ramgram would be developed connecting it with Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha.
“The government is at present moving forward on the path of development and prosperity. Rest assured, the government will develop Ramgram together with Lumbini,” she asserted.
Locals drew the Minister’s attention that the government has not given due importance to the development Ramgram when she reached the Stupa for the observation tour.
Ramgram municipality-7 chair, Shiva Shanker Harijan informed that more than 30,000 tourists visit Ramgram annually but the place lagged in terms of development and infrastructure.
Also on Tuesday, Minister Aryal visited the historical Palhi Bhagawati goddess temple at Palhinandan rural municipality-4 and the Martyr Bishnu Pandey Memorial Park at Bankatti, Sunawal-5 in the district. (RSS)
3 July, Dang- Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara today conducted a field inspection of a barrack of the then people’s liberation army in Tulasipur Sub Metropolitan City-19 in Dang.
On the occasion, Speaker Mahara pointed out an important role of the barrack in having brought this big change in the country. “Now this historic barrack area should be developed,” he said, pledging his efforts in managing budget from the governments of the centre, state and local level.
Likewise, mayor of the sub metropolis Ghana Shyam Pandey informed to Speaker Mahara that preparations were underway to transform this barrack into a war museum. On the occasion, the local people demanded facilities of road, electricity, telephone and drinking water. (RSS)
2 july, Abuja- One divisional police officer and three other policemen were confirmed killed by gunmen following an attack on a police station in Nigeria’s southern state of Bayelsa on Monday, local police authorities said.
The gunmen stormed the police station at Agudama-Ekpetiama area in the state capital, Yenagoa, shooting sporadically on early Monday, according to state police spokesperson Asinim Butswat.
One security source told Xinhua that no civilian was killed in the attack, as there was no detainee at the police station. Several sources also confirmed that service rifles, ammunition, and police uniforms were carted away by the gunmen.
According to a statement from the police headquarters, the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu has ordered a manhunt for the perpetrators of the act.Adamu also ordered the immediate deployment of detectives from the Intelligence Response Unit to complement the efforts of the state police in carrying out a discrete investigation into the “unfortunate incident”. 2 july, Bajhang- A person died from snakebite at Bungal municipality in Bajhang district. The deceased has been identified as Pawan Rokaya, 19, of Masta rural municipality-1.
The snake had bitten Pawan on his right ear at a time when he was sleeping at Arun Hotel at Deura bazaar. He died while undergoing treatment at the District Hospital, Simkhet, police said. (RSS)
2 july, Damauli- Two children drowned today in a brick kiln pond at Jamune of Myagde rural municipality-1 in Tanahu. The District Police Office, Tanahu confirmed the deaths of seven-year-old Sundar Shahi and four-year-old Kismat Shahi in the incident.
They are siblings The children who were on the way to home after attending school exams stopped upon seeing the water pond on the premises of Machhapuchhre Brick Kiln and drowned in course of swimming.
Sundar was an UKG student at the local Radha Secondary School while Kismat was a nursery student. Though they were rescued alive, they breathed their last at the Damauli Hospital. (RSS)
2 july, kathmandu- Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Chakrapani Khanal, has said that Prime Minister Agriculture Programe has become effective.
At a programme organsied by Reporters’ Club, State-5 at Butwal, today, Minister Khanal said that agriculture production has been increased after the beginning of the PM Agriculture Programme.
He further said that the government has given emphasis on moderinization and mechanization to increase agro productions.
The Agriculture Minister said out of Rs 28 billion budget allocated by the government in agriculture, Rs 9 billion was allocated for fertilizer.
Meanwhile in Galkot, Prime Minister Employment Programme has become effective at Tarakhola rural municipality of Baglung district. Repair and maintenance of roads of five wards of the rural municipality were carried out under the programme.
A total of 95 workers were mobilized for the same. Around five kilometers of road of the rural municipality was repaired, said rural municipality Prakash Gharti. (RSS)
