In what is seen as an unusual incident, a bomb went off while last rites were being performed of a soldier at Pashupati Aryaghat in Kathmandu on Sunday.
According to reports, security personnel and relatives attending the last rites of Dhan Bahadur Pandit– who was killed during clashes with Maoist insurgents in Kalikot district last week—were terrorized when the bomb went off all of a sudden.
Nobody was injured in the incident but body parts of late Pandit were scattered all over the funeral pyre.
Security officials suspect that the insurgents may have planted socket bomb within the body of Pandit after killing him at Pili in Kalikot. They said there was no tradition of performing post-mortem of slain soldiers.
At least 43 security personnel and 26 Maoist insurgents were killed in the fierce firefight that lasted for over ten hours last Sunday, according to reports.
