Biggest hydel project inauguration today

His Majesty the King is inaugurating the 144-megawatt Kaligandaki “A” hydroelectricity project amid a function in Beltari, Syangja on Thursday, RSS said. The hydel project, so far, is Nepal’s biggest, the agency added.

The project has a capacity of generating on an average 842 million units of electricity annually.

The project, till date, has generated 920 million units of electricity since its commercial production began on 16th August, 2002, the agency said, adding, the project also generated a revenue of Rs. 4.5 billion during the period.

A total of US $ 360 million has been invested in the project so far. It was earlier estimated to cost Rs. 450 million while preparing the preliminary cost-estimate of the project in 1996, according to the agency.
