The South Asian soccer tournament will be held in Bangladesh next January, a year after it was postponed due to a FIFA suspension of Bangladesh soccer federation, AP reported Wednesday quoting Bangladesh soccer officials.
The seven-nation soccer championship will be held Jan.10-20, 2003 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in the Dhaka suburb of Mirpur.
The regional tournament was first scheduled to be held in January/February 2002. The Bangladesh Football Federation was suspended on Jan.11 after its president, S.A.Sultan, a ruling party lawmaker, fired the body’s elected executive committee and appointed a new one.
FIFA lifted the suspension after the sacked committee was reinstated and fresh elections held in February.
