Normal life has been affected in Kathmandu on Sunday due to the seven day long Nepal ‘bandh’ (general strike) called by the Maoists to disrupt the municipal poll slated for Wednesday.

While shops in interior parts of the city are open, shops in major thoroughfares remained closed. Most of the public and private vehicles kept off the road but two wheelers and mini-vans could be seen plying around the streets.
Educational institutions and other private institutions remain closed due to week long bandh called by the Maoists.
Maoists called the bandh despite the request from all walks of life to call it back.
Earlier, leaders of seven agitating political parties urged Maoists to call back the seven day long Nepal Bandha saying people can’t tolerate such a long general strike.
Speaking at a programme in the capital on Saturday, they said it is foolhardy to call bandh to express dissatisfaction with the state.
