Chief of the Army Staff Gen. Pyar Jung Thapa flew for New Delhi Tuesday for an official visit at the invitation of his counterpart General S. Padmanavan.

Gen.Thapa is accompanied by Major General Om Bahadur Pun and other staff officers. President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will confer Gen. Thapa the honorary rank of a General of the Indian Army during the visit, like his predecessors.

Gen.Thapa assumed office in September this year.
