The apex court issued a stay order Thursday asking the government not to take any decision regarding the daily official work of the local bodies.

The government dissolved the local bodies on July 16 after their five-year term came to an end. Though the constitutional provision has clearly outlined that the tenure of the local bodies can be extended by one year on special conditions, the government decided that the works of the local bodies would be carried out by the government officials.

The apex court issued the stay order following the hearing on Wednesday. In the stay order the government has also been instructed to furnish a clarification.
