The airlift of the 800 man plus first Nepali U.N. Royal Nepali Army contingent to the West African state of Sierra Leone was completed Saturday night, an official announcement said.
The third and last batch of 203 soldiers left for civil strife torn Sierra Leone Saturday night by a chartered flight. Nepal earlier this year completely withdrew from Lebanon. A major Nepali army contingent under the U.N. is also stationed in East Timor.
Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat told the delayed meeting of the U.N.annual General Assembly last week in New York the kingdom will continue to support to U.N. peacekeeping operations world-wide as the Himalayan state suffered 42 casualties and contributed 40,000 troops for international peace keeping operations world-wide over the years.
