A central committee meeting of Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand’s Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) asked Government and Maoists to expedite the delayed peace talks to end seven-year communist insurgency, an announcement said.

The committee called on the government to create an atmosphere for the participation of major parties in the negotiations. PM Chand was not present at the meeting.

Chand has been criticized by critics in the party for what they call inept handling of the talks. The committee called on the warring sides to implement an agreed code of conduct to guide peace talks honestly. The committee also pressed for the rehabilitation and compensation for victims of Maoist violence.

Party President Pashupati SJB Rana invited senior leaders Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohini and Ravindra Nath Sharma to attend all committee meetings as special invitees. Rana defeated them in a contest for the party presidency. nepalnews.com br April 7
