General Secretary of the CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal who is on a week-long visit to India started formal consultations with the top Indian leaders in New Delhi Monday.
The Indian leaders are learnt to have backed the ongoing agitation of the seven political parties aimed at restoring full-fledged democracy in the country and peace in Nepal.
On Monday, Nepal met Indian Foreign Minister K Natwar Singh, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat, CPI (M) politburo member Sitaram Yechuri and Avani Ray of Revolutionary Socialist Party in New Delhi.
CPN-UML’s standing committee members KP Sharma Oli and Amrit Bohara and youth leader Rajan Bhattarai were also present during the meetings.
“I was impressed to know that Indian leadership is very well informed about the happenings in Kathmandu,” the Kathmandu Post quoted Nepal as saying.
Speaking about his meeting with Mukharjee, Nepal said, “He assured us that his government would not resume supplies of lethal military equipments to Kathmandu unless the government takes steps to restore democracy,” the paper said.
Nepal is scheduled to meet leader of opposition L K Advani, CPI (M) leader Harkishan Singh Surjit and Indian foreign secretary Shyam on Tuesday.
Nepal is in India to seek moral support of Indian government, leaders and people for the restoration of democracy and peace in the country.
