The Army Wednesday questioned the findings of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) team that said the Army killed 19 Maoists in Dorumba in Ramechap in mid-August after capturing them.

“The team stayed at the village for probably one but not more than two days. There is fear in the area which is inaccessible and no army team has reached there as yet. They just met a few persons,” said Brig. Gen. BA Kumar Sharma of the Army’s Human Rights Cell Wednesday.

“They said there was one body without wounds,” he said challenging the NHRC report that all 19 rebels were shot dead after capture.

Brig. Gen Sharma said the first Army report saying the rebels were killed in an encounter were based mainly on interviews with local officials and a few individuals; the Army has sent a second team to the area after NHRC claims.

He declined to make further comments until the findings of the second team.
