Bardia, May 28: District administration office, Bardia has imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000/ on “Hamro Naya Muluk” weekly published from Bardiya and has also stopped its publication.
The weekly was being published regularly since the past eight months.
In a letter addressed to publisher and editor Yubaraj Shrestha of the weekly, the district administration office has said that the action was taken in accordance with clause 26(1) of Press and Publications Act-2048 B.S. After the newspaper was found to be published without acquiring necessary certificate of approval for publication.
A newspaper with the same name had already been registered in Mahendranagar and therefore the Department of Information informed that two newspapers with the same name cannot be published. Accordingly notice was sent repeatedly but no response was received and this led to the cancellation of the registration of the newspaper, said CDO Khemraj Adhikari.
Meanwhile, in this connection, Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Bardia president Krishna Prasad Basyal and Nepal Press Union Bardia president Yagya Prasad Nepal have in separate statements strongly objected to the district administration’s decision.
