KATHMANDU, Sept 19:Police interrupted an attempt by Nepali Conagress to capture different district party offices previously occupied by the Deuba-led Congress. Police also detained district-level leaders. This in the wake of the Election Commission’s recognition to the Koirala-faction of the NC.
In Dang, the home district of Home Minister Khum Bahadur Khadka, police have arrested five district-level Nepali Congress leaders, including its president, as they attempted to enter the office of the Deuba-led Congress to celebrate Ganeshman Singh Memorial Day.
According to our reporter in Dang, police detained Dang NC president Bir Keshari Gautam, vice-president Kaman Singh Dangi, secretary Shanker Giri, general convention representative Binod Pokharel and active member Madhusudhan Paudel as the cadres of both sides engaged in a skirmish.
One cadre of Deuba faction alleged president Gautam-led activists of breaking the key of the office whereas the Congress party has blamed Home Minister Khadka for the arrest.
Superintendent of Police (SP) at the Dang Police Office Purna Singh Khadka said that the arrest has been made on charge of public crime. Meanwhile, activist Poudel has been released. According to Poudel, the Congress cadres entered the Deuba camp’s office informing the district administration office in advance.
Similarly, our reporter at Butwal said that police have dispersed Congress cadres as they gathered to celebrate Ganeshman Singh Memorial Day at Butwal town committee office. The office was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba two months back.
