Anti girl-trafficking activists Tuesday rescued five girls from being sold to Indian brothels, a report covered by Annapurna Post, a vernacular daily said Wednesday.
The rescued girls complained the traffickers had lured them to accompany them to India where they would get jobs fetching sound income. The report quotes Maiti Nepal, an anti-trafficking NGO as stating that two of the girls were rescued in Mumbai, an Indian city, and other three were rescued from Sunauli border near Bhairahawa.
The girls rescued from Mumbai have been identified as Samjhana K.C, 21 and Aasha Thapa, 24, of Dharan municipality.
Devi Rani Dong, 21 and Siddhimaya Syangbo, 20 who were rescued from Sunauli border, came from Sindhupalchowk, a girl trafficking hotbed. One of the girls had however managed to escape on the way.
Police have arrested alleged traffickers Gokarna Thapa, 41 and Narayan Prasad Shrestha, 20, of Sindhulalchowk district.
