BAGLUNG, Oct 18 – Three thousand chickens have died of poisoning in a poultry farm at Beni Bazaar of Parbat district’s Mallaj VDC ward No 3, located near the headquarters of Myagdi district.

It is suspected that an unidentiied person might have mixed poison in the drinking water of the poultry to kill the chickens which were being raised for meat purpose.

According to the proprietor of the poultry farm Krishna K.C., some white lime was found outside the drinking water tank. The proprietor has incurred a loss of about Rs 600 thousand from the death of the chickens.

Meanwhile, 2,500 chickens which were being raised for egg purpose near the other chickens which perished have been protected after severing the pipeline of the drinking water, K.C. told The Kathmandu Post.

As the Livestock Development Office in Myagdi could not ascertain as to which poison had killed the chickens, some of the chickens have been sent to Kathmandu for investigation to find out the cause of death.

The proprietor of the farm has suspected that this might have been the crime committed by someone due to professional enmity. This appears to be the biggest incident in which such a big loss had to be incurred in poultry farm in the whole of Dhaulagiri zone.
