Students affiliated to seven opposition alliance clashed with the police in front of several colleges when the latter tried to disrupt the protest programmes.
Six students of Padma Kanya Multiple Campus, Bagbazar, were seriously injured when police batton charged them in front of the campus.
Binita Adhikari, the chairman of the Padma Kanya Campus Free Students’ Union, sustained severe injuries on her head and is undergoing treatment at the Miteri hospital.
Deepa Siwakoti, Tika Choudhari, Swastika Pokhrel, Rupa Pokhrel, Uma Gautam, Roshani Priya Singh were also injured in the incident.
Two policemen sustained burn injuries when the blankets they were using to put off a fire suddenly caught fire in front of PK campus.
The police also arrested two students – Chanda Adhikary and Sita Gautam from the campus premises.
Similarly, 10 students including Rakesh Shrestha of Nepal Students Union were arrested from Saraswati Multiple Campus while they were protesting against the municipal election and the government’s use of force in their peaceful protest programmes.
In yet another clash between the students and the police at Kirtipur, students Jeet Jung Basnet of Nepal Students Union affiliated to Nepali Congress (Democratic) and Bishwo Chandra Rai were injured and are undergoing treatment at the TU Teaching Hospital.
The NSU also informed that Ranjit Karna, general secretary of NSU, was arrested from New Road.
Meanwhile, at a mass meeting at Ghattekulo on Sunday, the NSU appealed to all citizens to boycott the municipal polls as it would lead the country nowhere.
Pradip Poudel, vice president of NSU, said the municipal elections conducted at gun point will have no legitimacy. “Those involved in the municipal election will have to be boycotted from society,” said Poudel.
Gagan Kumar Thapa, former general secretary of the NSU, said, “People’s determination to fight against the King will be intensified with increasing suppression of the royal regime.”

In the evening, the NSU organised a torch rally at Old Baneshwor to protest against the house arrest of political leaders and the students damaged a government vehicle.
The ANNFSU held a torch rally at New Baneshwor Sunday evening and took out a rally from Ason to Naradevi Sunday morning.
Separately, Saroj Thapa, the chairman of the FSU Tri-chandra Multiple Campus, was arrested from Maitidevi Sunday evening.
Meanwhile, the Home Ministry said that the local administration in Kathmandu on Sunday arrested 32 persons trying to breach the prohibitory order, pelting stones at the security personnel and obstructing traffic. Ten were released later in the day.
